Ilya Hoffman – Viola

(1977)

Recognized worldwide as an outstanding musician Moscow born Ilya Hoffman studied at Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow, class of Yuri Bashmet, associated Roman Balashov; post-graduated from Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow (prof. Yuri Bashmet).

Studied composition under tutelage of his father, composer Leonid Hoffman, follower of the Second Viennese School, pupil of Philip Herschkowitz who himself was a student of Alban Berg and Anton Webern.

He has participated among others in the following festivals: Moscow Autumn Festival, Oleg Kagan Memorial, Arnold Schoenberg International Festival, Maria Yudina Commemoration, World Viola Festival in Kronberg, The “Plush-Fest" in London, "Mozartiana", Emilia Romagna Festival in Italy, Eesti Barokkmuusika Festival in Tallinn, Nimes Musical Autumn in France, Banff Festival in Canada.

Hoffman has collaborated with innumerous soloists and ensembles including: Alexei Lubimov, Natalia Gutman, Elisso Virsaladze, Kolya Blaher, Edward Brunner, Charles Neidich, Mikhail Muntian, Alexander Trostiansky, Alexander Rudin, Alexei Utkin, Adrian Brendel, Chen Halevi and others; regularely plays in a duo with the remarkable pianist Sergey Koudriakov.
