Péter Bársony – Viola

He was born in Budapest, graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music  in 2000. His masters were Ferenc Balogh, Ferenc Rados, György Konrád, Dénes Kovács, György Kurtág, Dénes Zsigmondy, Pinchas Zukerman, Zoltán Tóth. In 1999 he studied in Gerard Caussé’s class at the Conservatoire of Paris. In 2004-2005 he was holder of the Annie Fischer Grant.

Since 2000 he has been working with the Concerto Budapest Symphony Orchestra as solo viola player. He also performs regularly as a soloist with the Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, Erkel Chamber Orchestra, Budapest Strings, etc. In 2007 he has joined UMZE (Chamber Ensemble for Contemporary Music). The ensemble made its US debut at the Carnegie Hall in 2009. He played a founding roll in 1994 and 1997 creating the Akademia String Quartet and Somogyi String Quartet. From 1999-2000 he was member of the Keller String Quartet.

He worked together with György Kurtág, Sofia Gubaidulina, Fabiano Panisello and Steve Reich. He has participated in prestigious internatonal festivals like Santander, Ravinia Festival, Mostly Mozart, Schubertiada. His chamber music partners are Márta Gulyás, Péter Csaba, Zoltán Kocsis, Vilmos Szabadi, Dezső Ránki, Lajos Lencsés, László Fenyő, András Adorján, Miklós Perényi and David Grimal.

He has been committed to perform contemporary works. He premiered compositions dedicated to him by Balázs Horváth, Péter Durkó, Levente Gyöngyösi.

He has been teaching since 2004. Between 2004-2006 he got the position of compulsory viola faculty at Franz Liszt Academy of Music Budapest. In 2009 he held master classes at Trinity College, London.
